Isle of Man Self-employed Business Income and Expenditure Survey

Welcome to the 2023/24 Business VAT Survey. This survey is conducted by Statistics Isle of Man on behalf of the Isle of Man Government and is designed to collect information on the amount of irrecoverable VAT suffered by businesses and other organisations, large and small, VAT-registered or not, on the Island.
In cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, the Isle of Man Customs and Excise team will be offering online workshops on completing the form on Thursday 11th April and Thursday 18th of April, from 6pm to 7pm. Should you wish to attend You can register for one of these sessions by going to

It is vital to the Island that you complete this short survey to give the Government as much information as possible to help with future discussions on the VAT Revenue Sharing Arrangement with the UK. Your data will help to ensure that the Island receives its full share of VAT and other duties, money that is needed to fund health, education, policing and all other services on which we rely.
This survey is a statistical survey and NOT a VAT enquiry. Given the importance of this survey, we are therefore conducting the research under the terms of the Statistics Act 1999 which makes your participation a statutory requirement.
Important: you will be asked about the amount of irrecoverable VAT your business has incurred in the relevant 12 month period. If you are not able to provide this, the survey will ask you how much your business has spent on a number of categories of goods and services, how much VAT has been paid on those, and how much VAT was recovered.
Please note that the information you provide will not be attributed to you publicly. It will only be used for the purpose of producing aggregate statistics and will not be shared outside of Statistics Isle of Man.
The data that you provide will ONLY by used in aggregate for the purposes of the revenue sharing discussions and absolutely NOT for further examination of your tax affairs.

We may re-contact you if we need to clarify any of the information you have provided.
